What they wrote to the President
President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev continues to receive letters:
We present some of them:
From Ugur Jeylan, Istanbul, Türkiye
‘Dear Mr. President,
We follow the events in Azerbaijan with much concern, yet pride. We are proud of You for liberating Your lands and taking a firm stand against Armenian terrorists as the invincible and resolute leader of the people.
As the Turkish nation, we always stand by You. You are always in our prayers. We are also ever ready to fight along You on the frontline.
May our martyrs rest in peace. I wish from Allah for good health to the dear people of Azerbaijan’.
From Onur Gunduz, Ankara, Türkiye
‘Dear Mr. President,
As Your brothers in Türkiye, I want to declare that our hearts beat with Yours.
I was born in Sakarya, but for me, Karabakh is no different from it. May Allah aid You, our army, and people on Your path to the Motherland. The followers of the Oghuz tribes have always fought and won against the evil. Our prayers are with You.’
From Elvin Hulscher and Tariyel Mirzayev, Netherlands
‘Dear Mr. President,
We would like to express our support for the people of Azerbaijan on behalf of the Azerbaijan-Netherlands Business Hub.
Our thoughts are with the people who have suffered from the military operations. There is never a winning side to a war. We wish that the UN Security Council Resolutions 822, 853, 874. And 884 are implemented immediately, thus returning peace and lasting prosperity.’
From Khanagha Ahadli, Baku, Azerbaijan
‘Our dearest President,
Greeting You is a 5th-grade student of the secondary school 86. I am writing to thank You.
The tears of joy my mother sheds as she hears the news You deliver every day on recovering our lands from the enemy cannot help but make me happy too.
My family always thinks and talks of the situation at the front and repeats that Karabakh is Azerbaijan!’
From Tofig Janaliyev, Masalli, Azerbaijan
‘Dear President, Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief,
The valour of the Azerbaijani Army for the liberation of Karabakh from occupation under Your command has become the talk all over the world. It has inspired many a poem and song. We have never seen such high morale among our people.
Mr. President, the residents of Khalfalar village in Masalli express their gratitude to You for Your resolute and courageous actions. We wish You a long life, excellent health, and success in all Your future endeavours. We are confident that You will restore the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Long live the people of Azerbaijan, its glorious Army, and its Supreme Commander-in-Chief!’
From Omar Mirzayev, Sheki, Azerbaijan
‘Our dearest President,
I would today like to remind the slogan of our great leader Heydar Aliyev, every Azerbaijani has engraved in their hearts: ‘Our nationality is a source of our pride. I am proud to be an Azerbaijani!’ Inspired by this very quote, my cousin Vusal Rzayev, a resident of Kish village in Sheki, voluntarily left for the Sheki Commissariat at the age of 31 to serve his Motherland.
Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief, God bless You and our soldiers. May You always deliver news of victory to us.
Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan!
Karabakh is Azerbaijan!’
From Tofig Mammadov, Guba, Azerbaijan
‘Dear President, Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief,
Since the very first day of the Patriotic War on 27 September, I have too been glued to the TV screen, eagerly listening to the news, Your speeches, and interviews. I am extremely proud of how fluently You speak Russian, English, and Turkish and how well-informed You are on a variety of topics. I feel exceptionally happy to have a resolute and determined head of state and President like You.
Your visionary policy has educated the entire world on how strong of a country Azerbaijan is.
Our dearest President, the people have mobilized around You and are ever ready for all Your commands. You have earned this through Your skills and the trust You have inspired in our people. I witnessed the candid and caring meeting You and our First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva had with the wounded soldiers at the military hospital.
Mr. President, the time is now, our patience has run thin. Everyone wants our lands back from Armenian oppression and to see our tricolour flag undulate proudly in our Karabakh, in Shusha, the cradle of national music. Thus, our martyrs will be avenged.
I am writing this letter, inspired by the glorious victory our Army won yesterday. Although I am 67, I, too, am ready to die to liberate our lands. ‘I too am an armed soldier as of today’, just like our national poet Samad Vurgun said.
You are honouring the path Your father embarked upon and his dearest wishes. We can talk much about everything You are doing for our people, especially the attention and care You constantly show to the families of our martyrs. I am proud to carry a party ticket, signed by the great leader Heydar Aliyev.
You will soon plant our victorious flag on our recovered lands as the glorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief. I wish You success on this path and more victories.
May God protect You and our victorious Army!
Justice must prevail!
Karabakh is Azerbaijan!’
From Osman Ibrahimov, Imishli, Azerbaijan
‘Dear Mr. President,
We are proud of You. God bless You. We, the youth, are always inspired by Your love for our Azerbaijan.
We are confident that You and our army will soon raise our holy tricolour flag in Shusha, in Karabakh. We trust You and wish You further success.’
From Musa Guliyev, Barda, Azerbaijan
‘Dear Mr. President,
I am overjoyed as I write this letter. We have longed for these days for thirty years. These are the victorious days as the Azerbaijani Army writes glorious history under Your leadership and recovers the Karabakh lands to the last inch. We do, have always been and will always stand by You in Your righteous struggle against the hated Armenians.
Our Honoured President, I can confidently say that every Azerbaijani is today proud of our powerful state and its wise and courageous President, who delivers the will and truth of our people to the entire world. I wish you more success on this path of justice and a healthy and long life from the God Almighty.
My biggest dream is for our valiant sons, ever ready to die for their Motherland, to raise our tricolour flag in Shusha. May Allah protect our invincible army from the hateful enemy. God bless You and our army.’
From Ruslan Amrahov, Shamakhi, Azerbaijan
‘Dear Mr. President
Our people, including myself, have been living glorious, exciting, and proud days since 27 September. Our joy has known no bounds after the news of our first victory.
I am one of the first to sign up as a volunteer for the front. I look forward to the day I am called to join the battles. I am surrounded by thousands of determined youths, just like me.
Everyone is proud of Your fluent, precise, and honest speeches. Frankly, I find it difficult to find words for all the feelings and joy I am experiencing. But I thank God that the time has arrived to protect our native lands from the enemy.
We are all grateful and proud of You, dear President. We wish You and Your family all the best. I am proud to have such a leader. We always stand by You! May God protect You and our army! Amen.’
From Namig Shavrugov, Baku, Azerbaijan
‘Dear President, Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief,
Our victorious army led by You has liberated some of the territories occupied by the brutal Armenian usurpers. Just like You said, Azerbaijan would never put up with the Armenian occupation and insults! Therefore, I express my infinite gratitude to the personnel of our Armed Forces and You personally as their Supreme Commander-in-Chief. May our martyrs rest in peace. May God heal the wounded. Amen!
I am confident that the souls of our martyrs and the great leader Heydar Aliyev, who rescued Azerbaijan from falling apart, rejoice as they see Your successful military operations.
You continue your father’s sacred mission as an honourable son. Unfortunately, there are still some powers, who patronize the occupying and dependent Armenia.
I wish from God Almighty for health, resolution, and unshakeable determination for You and our Army on this difficult, yet holy path.’
From Asiman Nadirli, Shirvan, Azerbaijan
‘Dear President, Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief!
We have been receiving news of victory from our army thanks to Your successful policy. We are finally recovering the lands we have longed for 27 years thanks to Your determination.
We are proud that the people of Azerbaijan have a strong army and a wise leader like You!
The victory belongs to us! Karabakh is Azerbaijan!’
From Gulbala Kamilov, Lerik, Azerbaijan
‘Dear Mr. President,
You have developed a glorious, powerful, and fearless Army through Your domestic and foreign policy. This Army has united the brave sons of Azerbaijan, thus ensuring Victory against the enemy.
Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief, we are ever ready to fight the Armenian invaders on the frontline.
The Victory is ours, Karabakh is Azerbaijan!
May God protect You, our army, and our people!’
From Mahammad Orujov, Tartar, Azerbaijan
‘Dear Mr. President,
The day has finally arrived to take back the lands, which have been under the enemy foothold for 27 years. All Azerbaijanis, including myself as a son of Tartar, support every step You take on this path. I wish You and our soldiers at the frontline a strong will, good health, and joy of victory.
Although I am just a 9th grade student, I, too, want to take up arms and protect my Motherland, free it from the enemy.
We know that it is a battlefield, a war. Of course, we will have our sons martyred, our houses destroyed. We only wish for the blood of our martyrs avenged.
Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief, I wish from the God Almighty to rid us of the dark clouds over our heads, to avenge our martyrs and bestow happiness upon the Azerbaijani people. May the Azerbaijani Army raise our tricolour flag in Shusha, Lachin, Kalbajar, and all occupied territories. Ours is the path of justice!
My family and I pray to God every day to protect all our soldiers, especially our Supreme Commander-in-Chief, make them vigilant, and strong as they recover our lands and return safely to their families. Amen!’
From Salim Azimov, Aghdam, Azerbaijan
‘Dear Mr. President,
I am 90 years old. I am an honoured teacher and I have been a school principal for 56 years out of my 65 years of teaching experience. I have always actively promoted Your cause. You are the worthy follower of our Great Leader and a wise, prudent President, who will forever be remembered, who loves and cares for his people.
We rejoice every day for the news of our glorious Army recovering important heights and our sacred territories. We, the intellectuals, follow all the happenings and wish good health and further success to You and our army from God Almighty.
It is the fruit of Your resolute policy that our glorious Army has launched a counter-offensive and been liberating our lands from occupation. We are proud of our soldiers, who destroyed the numerous enemy forces and combat equipment.
Mr. President, on behalf of all people of Aghdam, I wish You from God Almighty for good health, the sweetest blessing of God, and success on the holy path You have embarked upon. We pray that our army will soon recover Aghdam, Shusha, Khankendi and other Karabakh lands and raise the glorious Azerbaijani flag there. God willing, we will cut a sacrificial animal when You and Ms. Mehriban come to visit us.
Karabakh is ours! Karabakh is Azerbaijan!’
From Hasan Huseynov, Shirvan, Azerbaijan

The people of Azerbaijan are proud of You, as a successful and worthy follower of the political legacy we have inherited from our Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the valiant Azerbaijani Army is blessing us all, as they liberate the ancient and eternal Azerbaijani lands, which have been under enemy foothold for too long, thus returning them to their true owners. This is the history itself and You are writing this glorious history in golden letters in the world annals with the people of Azerbaijan.
Our hearts beat with love for our Motherland. The message you so resolutely delivered to the entire world has become our proudest motto in life: ‘Karabakh is Azerbaijan!’
