Volunteering

‘I fought alongside my father; We faced death many times’ – Volunteer at Front

Major Chinghiz Gahramanov, wounded in the Karabakh Wars, and his son Rashad Gahramanzade, who volunteered for the army in the 44-day war, became the first visitors of Gulaburd village in Lachin, the very place they were born.

There are many heroes who are still the living proof that the motherland has historically been dearer than life. We have come across so many illustrations of this in the history of our Victory in the 44-day war that we can’t help but feel proud…

The bravery of our patriots in the war, who cherished their land as much as their own mothers, has been the biggest exemplification of this. We would like to introduce you to a father and a son, who have done just that.

Reserve Major Chinghiz Gahramanov, born in Gulaburd village in Lachin, joined the 44-day War. He is also a veteran of the First Karabakh War. But this time, he had his son fighting alongside him.

Rashad Gahramanzade said that he applied to the Yasamal Office of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription to join the front voluntarily. He also sent an e-mail to the President of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, stating his willingness to join the battles. But he was destined to fight alongside his father: ‘…My father was getting ready for the battles. After all, he was an officer in reserve. He wanted to take 25 volunteers, who had fought alongside him in the previous war. I asked him to include my name first on that list. Thankfully, he fulfilled my wish…’

The commander father thus added his son to his group. The Gahramanovs were among the ones who led the way throughout the entire war. They were in the very heart of the flashpoints in Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Lachin.

Wounded during the fights, Chingiz Gahramanov, and his son Rashad were among the first to set foot in their native Lachin after 27 years. They found their house, brutally destroyed by the Armenians, and even stayed there for the night.

27 years ago, Major Chinghiz Gahramanov had visited his father’s grave and given his word that he would make sure they returned to Lachin. He says he feels elated that he managed to keep the promise to his father. He admitted that he treated his son as an ordinary soldier during the 44-day Patriotic War but could not help but try to shield him every time the enemy fired.

They have inspired discussions on social media. Even the brotherly Turkish media published a story about the valiance of our heroes: ‘Azerbaijani father and son pen a story of true heroism, fighting shoulder-to-shoulder…’

Rashad Gahramanzade talked about how proud he was to be a part of liberating our lands from occupation and to share it with his father. He remembered the difficult moments when they faced death many times and even were under mortar fire for two hours. Rashad visited his grandfather’s grave with his father and told us he had no words to describe the feelings he experienced at that moment.

Love for one’s motherland is manifested through action, just like a father and a son on the very front of the battles to liberate it…

Azərbaycan Ordusunun sentyabrın 27-də işğalçı Ermənistan silahlı qüvvələrinə qarşı başladığı əks-hücum əməliyyatında əldə etdiyi möhtəşəm qələbələr haqqında bundan sonra kitablar yazılacaq, filmlər çəkiləcək. Amma indidən tam əminliklə deyə bilərik ki, cəbhə uğurlarımızın ən başlıca səbəbi Prezident, Ali Baş Komandan İlham Əliyevin həyata keçirdiyi güclü dövlət, güclü ordu strategiyası, milli birlik və döyüşçülərimizin ruh yüksəkliyi idi.
