Barda Tragedy: Sister Kisses Brother’s Hand as She Cries
As the Armenian army retreated, defeated at the frontline during the Patriotic War, they resorted to targeting the civilian population. The rockets and shells fired by the invaders claimed many lives among the civilians. The Barda tragedy became yet another illustration of Armenian barbarism and one of the most discussed topics on social media.
The shelling of Barda on 28 October was one of the biggest tragedies of the war. A photograph taken at the scene was one of the most shared images on social media in the following days. The photo depicted a devastating scene of Barda residents, where a sister was kissing her deceased brother’s hand, as she sat crying over his lifeless body.
The photo became the reflection of the Barda tragedy, turning into the most shared image on social media. It was even published as the main illustration of an article in The New York Times. Later, Time chose this photo, which depicted Armenian fascism, one of the photos of the year.
