Supporting the army
We – the Jews of Azerbaijan will defend our Motherland together with our Azerbaijani brothers!
It has been almost 30 years since Armenia started an armed conflict and occupied 20 percent of the territories of the sovereign Republic of Azerbaijan. They conducted an ethnic cleansing of the Azerbaijani population in those lands throughout the occupation, the 1992 Khojaly genocide being one of the illustrations of that policy. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994 and started negotiating, which lasted 26 years! During these years, Armenia has committed grave military provocations against Azerbaijan several times and has even threatened to seize new Azerbaijani territories.
The communique circulated by the Jewish Community in Azerbaijan continues: ‘Armenia provoked Azerbaijan once again on 27 September 2020, which escalated into another conflict between the parties. The Jewish community in Azerbaijan strongly condemns the aggressive acts committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan and calls on the world community and international organizations to demonstrate determination, demanding that Armenia withdraw its troops from the occupied territories and fulfill the resolutions of the UN Security Council on the liberation of the Azerbaijani territories. Such aggression violates international law and exacerbates the armed conflict between the two states.
Enjoying impunity, Azerbaijan has attacked Azerbaijan for the second time in a very short period, targeting civilians and destroying cities and villages. The victims of the latest conflict include civilians and children.
Regardless of religion or ethnicity, every citizen of Azerbaijan must closely unite around the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Honourable President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Numerous representatives of different peoples and ethnic groups have suffered during these wars, including Jews, who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland, such as Albert Agarunov, the National Hero of Azerbaijan.
We, thousands of Jews of Azerbaijan, urge Armenia to withdraw from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and bear responsibility for launching a provocation and starting a new war against Azerbaijan.
Our community appeals to all international organizations and the OSCE Minsk Group and urges the leading organizations to call on Armenia to comply with international law and withdraw the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan!
Armenia should have understood a long time ago that the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven adjacent regions are historical Azerbaijani lands and will never belong to Armenia. All Azerbaijani lands must be recovered from occupation. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored.
We appeal to the entire world community to hold Armenia accountable!
We also call on the Jewish community around the world to support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and international law!
The multi-thousand Jewish community of Azerbaijan fully supports the policy pursued by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in settling the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
We, the Jews of Azerbaijan, have always been and will continue to stand by the people of Azerbaijan and defend our homeland along with our Azerbaijani brothers!
