70-year-old pensioner gifts his pension to the Army
70-year-old Hikmat Musayev from Bash Kungut village in Sheki came into ASAN Service centre to donate his pension to the Army. The elderly Musayev’s unique support for the righteous cause of our country and the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan as they fought for our territorial integrity caused a great stir in social networks. Everybody applauded the citizen of Sheki, who donated his 180 manats for our soldiers and officers, who sacrificed their lives in the Patriotic War. Every mass media outlet in the country interviewed the elderly. He also joined the ‘Letter to a Soldier’ project by ASAN Volunteers.
Setting an example for everyone, Hikmat Musayev assured that he was confident the heroic sons of our Motherland would prevail and soon restore our territorial integrity:
‘I had been saving small amounts from my 180-manat pension. I wanted to support our army. We must all do it. There is nothing surprising about what I have done. It was something I felt my duty and did with all my heart. I had been saving that amount in bits. It is not the time of the month for our pensions yet.’
Grandpa Hikmat replied to surprised reactions about his donation when his own shoes were torn: ‘Now is not the time to buy shoes. We need to think about our soldiers. God bless, don’t pay attention to such things.’
Orkhan Jafarov, an employee at ASAN Service, wrote on his social network account about Grandpa Hikmat at the peak of the war: ‘We had just started working when an old man came into the centre. I inquired after the service he had come for. He said he wanted to help our soldiers at the front. ‘I have 180 manats’, he said, ‘and I want to give it to them.’
When I looked back at him, astonished, he asked if it was too little. I said, ‘Grandpa, God bless your beautiful heart, it is not too little, it is more than the world…’
As he patiently waited for his turn and approached the service desk at last, my heart cried as I saw his shoes. Both of his shoes were torn in half. But he had such a big heart that he did not feel it right to buy himself a new pair of shoes in this rain and cold, but chose to donate his money to his soldier sons…
He then wrote a ‘Letter to a Soldier’ and left. It was worth seeing the pride on this grandpa’s face as he donated the money…’
