Los Angeles Times Publishes Armenia’s Occupation Policy
Azerbaijan has been scoring many successes in the course of the Second Karabakh War, trying to achieve the publication of more Karabakh truths in foreign mass media. The article, written by Nasimi Aghayev, the consul general of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, was published in USA’s prestigious Los Angeles Times.
The Consul General points out in the article that Nagorno-Karabakh is not a disputed territory, recognized as such by the international community. Aghayev mentioned Armenia’s invading policy towards Azerbaijan, adding that Armenia illegally invaded 20% of Azerbaijan’s sovereign territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, thus expelling 800,000 Azerbaijanis from their ancestral lands.
The United Nations Security Council demanded that Armenian forces be withdrawn, the Consul General continued. Thirty years and hundreds of peace negotiations later, Azerbaijan’s territories are still under Armenia’s illegal military occupation, and all those Azerbaijani civilians remain displaced.
Since September 27, Armenian armed forces have been shelling Azerbaijani civilians. As a result, at least 41 Azerbaijani civilians, including three children, have been killed. Azerbaijan is defending itself in response.
Continuing on the resolution, the diplomat said that for peace to materialize, Armenia needs to withdraw its armed forces from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, as demanded by the United Nations, which would allow Azerbaijanis forcibly displaced to return to their homes. Then, the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno-Karabakh will build together a peaceful and prosperous future together.
Armenians and Azerbaijanis have lived peacefully in Nagorno-Karabakh and other parts of Azerbaijan for many centuries. This is not a religious or ethnic conflict.
In conclusion, the diplomat called for the U.S. and other powers to ensure respect for international law and convince Armenia to withdraw its forces from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories so that peace between our two nations can be restored.
The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles has launched purposeful activities to convey the truths of Karabakh to the American public. Since September 27, Consul General Aghayev has given numerous interviews to various local prestigious newspapers and TV channels, including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, KTLA, TELEMUNDO, CURRENT TIME channels and NPR/KCRW radio to expose the Armenian invasive policy. The local Armenian lobby, enraged by the Consul General’s published views, has applied pressure on those media outlets and even held protests in front of Los Angeles Times and CBS buildings.
