Azerbaijan-Germany Forum releases statement regarding Armenian provocations
The Azerbaijan-Germany Forum has issued a statement on the provocations committed by Armenia.
The statement reads as follows:
“For more than 15 years, the Azerbaijan-Germany Forum has been advocating for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. At many conferences, we inform the German public and political circles that the conflict regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh region and its surrounding regions of Azerbaijan, which have been occupied by Armenia, may flare up again at any time. We have insisted in various discussion forums that the negotiations on the conflict should be substantive, continuous and, above all, within the framework of the period acceptable for Azerbaijan.
Unfortunately, in recent years, many experts had the impression that the international community, including the OSCE Minsk Group, which mediates between Azerbaijan and Armenia, have not made serious efforts to achieve results in the negotiations. On the contrary, it was assumed that the conflict, frozen by a fragile ceasefire, would not escalate in a long-term perspective. We have repeatedly warned against this kind of misjudgment over the past few years. As the current events show, we were not wrong in our assessments. The current armed clashes in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan cause great concern. The possibility that the escalation of the conflict will cover the entire South Caucasus region is not small. In such a dramatic situation, it is not enough to simply call the parties to peace talks. Negotiations over the past 25 years have clearly shown that the current negotiation format is not suitable for achieving a resolution of the conflict. Currently, there is a need for an urgent and clear solution approach within the framework of international law, as well as the relevant four resolutions of the UN Security Council and through the mediation of the European Union. The UN has clearly stated in its resolutions that the occupied territories are integral parts of Azerbaijan. It cannot be allowed that a significant part of Azerbaijan's lands remains under the occupation of foreign troops for more than 25 years, but the international community continues to tolerate this situation, which is contrary to international law, despite condemning it.”
