Armenia should give Azerbaijan a timetable for the withdrawal of its troops from the occupied territories, and this timetable should be approved by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries. After that, an attempt should be made to reach a ceasefire, Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Rahman Mustafayev cited President Ilham Aliyev as saying.
In an interview with RT France, the diplomat stated that Azerbaijan’s position on the conflict settlement remains unchanged.
“The four resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council in 1993 regarding the conflict must be fulfilled. Provision 1 of these resolutions demands a complete, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts where not a single resident of Armenian origin is living. These requirements must be fulfilled. Azerbaijan has not changed its position. Azerbaijan is ready for discussions, but, first of all, the basic requirement of the resolutions must be observed,” he said.
“During the negotiations on the conflict, its outcome is forgotten and not talked about. Everyone should know that the conflict resulted in the occupation of Azerbaijani lands. One can talk about a ceasefire, but today Azerbaijan is waiting for a clear and concrete timetable for the withdrawal of all Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories. At the same time, the co-chairs should also be assured about this issue. In other words, the co-chairs should sign a specific timetable for the complete withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and the co-chairs should ensure that this timetable is checked and approved,” Mustafayev added.
The ambassador also dismissed the Armenian prime minister’s allegations on Turkey's support to Azerbaijan with military equipment and military personnel.
“President Erdogan of Turkey, a fraternal country to Azerbaijan, clearly expressed his moral and political support for our country. Our cooperation is conducted within the framework of international law. Turkey's support to our country does not exceed the framework of international law,” he added.
“The leadership of Armenia has already realized that it is impossible to talk with Azerbaijan with the logic of force,” said the ambassador, who again touched on the basic demands and expressed the possibility of talking about the future of the region after the complete, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands.
