IDP from Jabrayil: ‘I would walk there barefoot right now’ (Trend)
‘I am very happy with our government and our President. As we heard that the city and villages of Jabrayil had been recovered, we were all in tears of joy and could not get sleep all night out of excitement.’
We spoke to Musa Aghakishiyev as a part of the ‘PRESIDENT. Independence. Security. Prosperity’ video project after the liberation of Jabrayil city and most of its villages. Internally displaced from Jabrayil, Aghakishiyev said he was born and grew up there. He thanked President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for recovering the occupied territories:
‘Our telephones have not stopped ringing after the news. All our family and friends have called us. My brother in Russia called several times asking whether I was going to Jabrayil. I told him that I would walk there barefoot this instant. We grew up on those lands. We had a farm and lived wonderfully there.’
Another IDP from Jabrayil, Sugra Aghakishiyeva, says they were expelled from the region in 1993: ‘We were forced to cross the Aras River because we were surrounded by the Armenians. I wish they also filmed back then so that they could see true history. Those hateful, fascist Armenians did not care about the elders or children. They burnt down our houses, everything in our villages. Those were difficult times. But today I shed tears of joy because we got Jabrayil back. I am very grateful to President Ilham Aliyev. We, the people of Azerbaijan, are very happy to have such a leader. He drove the enemy away. I am grateful to our soldiers, and our Army. May our martyred sons rest in peace, and may our wounded be healed.’
