Azerbaijan’s embassy in Ethiopia holds press conference for media representatives
Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Ethiopia organized a press conference for representatives of the leading Ethiopian media outlets.
At the press conference, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev provided detailed information about Armenia’s recent military aggression against Azerbaijan in gross violation of international law, as well as about the current situation at the front.
Ambassador Abdullayev, first of all, informed the Ethiopian media representatives that Nagorno-Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan. The diplomat also called on the media representatives to avoid using the term “disputed region” by some biased media outlets. He brought to their attention that the Nagorno-Karabakh region and surrounding districts are territories occupied by Armenia, as reflected in the resolutions of the UN and other international organizations.
Giving information about the history of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan and the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, the ambassador noted that tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis were killed as a result of Armenia's policy of occupation and ethnic cleansing, and one million people became refugees and internally displaced. He presented to the media representatives copies of four UN resolutions demanding an immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the Azerbaijani territories.
Ambassador Abdullayev stated that it is unacceptable for the state and people of Azerbaijan that the international community keeps mum about Armenia's occupation of Azerbaijani lands for the past 30 years, the non-implementation of UN resolutions by Armenia, the continuation of Armenia's occupation policy against Azerbaijan, as well as about Armenia’s new military and political provocations.
The diplomat informed that around 06:00 hours, on 27 September 2020, the armed forces of Armenia blatantly violated the ceasefire regime and using large-caliber weapons, mortar launchers, and artillery launched an intensive attack on the positions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan along the frontline, as well as the villages of Gapanli of Tartar district, Chiragli and Orta Garavand of Aghdam district, Alkhanli and Shukurbayli of Fuzuli district and Jojug Marjanli of Jabrayil district. The bombardment of densely populated civilian areas and installations situated along the front line by Armenia's armed forces has been deliberate and targeted. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces immediately took necessary counter-offensive measures to prevent Armenia's other military aggression and ensure the security of the civilian population.
The ambassador emphasized that the Azerbaijani Army, which is internationally known for its high indicators in terms of preparation and supply, has demonstrated true professionalism in the ongoing Patriotic War since September 27 and continues to liberate the country’s lands, especially strategic regions.
Later on, the journalists' questions were answered, and informative brochures prepared by the Embassy of Azerbaijan and a map of Azerbaijan were presented to them.
