“Turkiye provides only moral and political support to our country. Turkiye does not deviate from the framework of international law while voicing support for our country. Apart from Turkiye, many Asian countries, as well as European Union member countries, expressed their support for Azerbaijan. There is nothing wrong here. There are no mercenaries in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan does not even need mercenaries. Azerbaijan, which has a population of ten million, is fighting for the liberation of its lands,” Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France, Rahman Mustafayev said in a meeting with a group of French journalists.
Speaking about the history of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Mustafayev stated that although Azerbaijan preferred peace and negotiations regarding the settlement of the conflict, the Armenian side always showed an unconstructive position. In recent years, the Armenian leadership has made provocative statements in various countries to provoke Azerbaijan to war. Despite these statements, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, which is entrusted with the resolution of the conflict, have not reacted at all.
Stressing the fact that Armenia violated the international border of Azerbaijan once again, the diplomat added that Armenia targeted the largest energy infrastructure of Azerbaijan with its attack in the Tovuz direction.
Furthermore, Rahman Mustafayev said that in the war that has been going on for 10 days now, the Azerbaijani Army has spoken its piece and has started to liberate its lands, especially strategic regions.
Answering journalists’ questions, the ambassador also talked about Azerbaijan-France relations. The ambassador stated that although the two countries enjoy high-level political and economic ties, the groundless claims made by France on the use of mercenaries from Azerbaijan’s side are regrettable. He added that the Azerbaijani Army was capable of liberating its territories.
“Today Azerbaijan has the right to liberate its occupied lands. The resistance movement carried out by France in 1944 is carried out today by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 districts around it,” Mustafayev said.
Mustafayev also touched on the ineffectiveness of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. He spoke about the significant role of Azerbaijan in the region. He gave a geopolitical description of the region, saying that our country is located in a very complex geopolitical space. He emphasized that Azerbaijan, which is located between three big countries, conducts a balanced policy in the region.
Regarding Turkiye’s support to Azerbaijan, he stated that today not only Turkiye, but many countries, as well as countries included in the European Union, declared their support to Azerbaijan. Turkiye does not deviate from the framework of international law, and its moral support to Azerbaijan is not a mistake either.
It should be noted that journalists were presented with informative brochures prepared by our embassy regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and a map of Azerbaijan.
