Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration was interviewed by the Pakistani ‘GEO TV’ channel.
The Presidential Aide spoke about the recent military provocations of Armenia against Azerbaijan, shelling of civilian objects with artillery and rockets and Azerbaijan defending its sovereign territories.
Extending best wishes to brotherly Pakistan, Hikmet Hajiyev reminded Pakistan’s support to Azerbaijan at the beginning of the 1990s when the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict started. It was also mentioned that Pakistan did not have any diplomatic relations with this country due to Armenia’s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan. Pakistan was one of the first countries to support Azerbaijan’s struggle when Armenia committed another provocation against Azerbaijan on September 27.
Hikmet Hajiyev stated that Armenia deliberately launched a large-scale attack to kill the civilian population of Azerbaijan and cause maximum damage to the civil infrastructure, and therefore the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan should take counter-offensive measures to repel the military aggression of Armenia and liberate our occupied lands, as well as to ensure the safety of our citizens. The armed forces of Azerbaijan advanced and forced the Armenian army to withdraw from certain territories. However, the political-military leadership of Armenia, which was helpless, started to shell Azerbaijan's big cities and civil infrastructure with rockets. Apart from that, Armenians committed another provocation by firing on another big city of Azerbaijan, Mingachevir.
The Presidential Aide noted the fact that Azerbaijan has negotiated to peacefully resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for 30 years. However, no results were achieved due to Armenia’s policy to preserve the status-quo. The Armenian side tried to violate the negotiation process by all means.
Hikmet Hajiyev also expressed his gratitude for the support of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the just position of Azerbaijan in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
