The article entitled "Azerbaijan demands the immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops" was published in the reputable "The Korea Times" newspaper.
The article, written by Azerbaijani ambassador to the Republic of Korea Ramzi Teymurov provides information about the situation caused by another Armenian provocation on September 27. It was stated that Azerbaijan carries out operations within its internationally recognized territories.
Informing the readers about the history of the conflict, the diplomat also noted that Armenia has occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territories for 30 years. As a result of Armenia’s occupation policy, over a million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and IDPs in their lands. The UN Security Council has adopted 4 resolutions on the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Several international organizations, such as the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the OSCE, and NATO, have also adopted similar documents. However, Armenia still ignores the demands of the international community.
It was written that some Western countries regrettably present Nagorno-Karabakh as a ‘disputed territory’. The documents adopted by international organizations confirmed the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, including Nagorno-Karabakh, by Armenia, and this act was condemned.
The ambassador stated that some biased articles contain false information about the ethnic composition of the population of Azerbaijan’s occupied territories. Although the number of Armenians predominated in Nagorno-Karabakh until the beginning of the conflict, it did not give them the right to carry out ethnic cleansing. Such ethnic cleansing is a clear violation of international law, including the basic principles of the UN Charter.
The article also condemns attempts made by some mass media to transfer the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan to a religious level and emphasizes its groundlessness. Thus, it is known that Azerbaijan has been a multicultural and tolerant country for centuries, where Christians, like people of different religions, live in peaceful and friendly conditions. Even in 2016, Pope Francis praised Azerbaijan as a model of religious tolerance for a world torn by violent extremism.
