The main reason for the conflict is the existence of the foreign armed forces in the territories of Azerbaijan and the occupation of our territories. Although Azerbaijan has always supported the peaceful settlement of the conflict, the Armenian side has never been ready for this. Today it is possible to start negotiations after the liberation of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani ambassador to France Rahman Mustafayev voiced his thoughts in his interview with the journal ‘Musulmans et Musulmans en France’.
The diplomat highlighted the importance of compliance with the principles of international law. It is the right of Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs to return to their lands. Azerbaijan has the right to liberate its lands and this war is a patriotic war for us. International law gives us the right to liberate our territories.
The ambassador noted that we don’t understand some politicians, who call for negotiations. Azerbaijan has always tried to resolve the conflict via peace and negotiations. When the other party is not willing to resolve the issue through talks, it does not bring any results. The Pashinyan regime, which came to power by making big promises to its people, is facing bankruptcy. Today he is responsible for the death of thousands of young men on the battlefield.
Providing detailed information about the history of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat spoke about Armenia's ethnic cleansing policy against Azerbaijanis. Over a million Azerbaijanis have been expelled from Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, and 7 adjacent regions and have been living as refugees and IDPs for 30 years.
The ambassador also added that 4 resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council in 1993 demanded immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the Azerbaijani territories. However, Armenia has ignored those resolutions until today. During the 27 years of the negotiation process, the Armenian armed forces continued to attack our territories.
In July of this year, the Armenian armed forces attacked the territories of the Tovuz region, which is 200 kilometres away from the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenia was openly preparing for the military provocation that started on September 27. Unfortunately, the co-chairs of the Minsk Group did not react to these provocations. It is unacceptable. The Armenian PM made unacceptable statements about the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and 7 districts around it. The co-chairs did not react again. In such a situation, our President decided to take retaliatory measures, referring to the right of self-defense, which is reflected in the UN Charter. Today, the Azerbaijani army is liberating our occupied lands.
In his interview, the diplomat spoke about multiculturalism in Azerbaijan, where representatives of various nations and religions live together in our country.
