Well-known Spanish media ‘ABC’ newspaper (founded in Madrid in 1903) interviewed the ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Spain, Anar Maharramov.
During the interview titled ‘Participation of Turkiye in military operations is nonsense’, Maharramov addressed questions about the history of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia's aggressive policy towards our country, including Azerbaijan's attitude to the next provocation of the neighboring state and the position of the international community on this issue.
Answering the questions, Ambassador Anar Maharramov stated that the territory of Karabakh is the historical land of Azerbaijan, and Armenians were moved to this territory starting in the first half of the 19th century.
It was stated that the Armenian armed forces committed military provocation in the direction of the Tovuz region starting from July 12, 2020. With this provocation, Armenia intended to create a new source of conflict on the border of the two countries and endanger the energy pipelines, including transport and communication lines, passing through the territory of Azerbaijan.
It was stressed that to prevent the next military aggression of Armenia and ensure the safety of the civilian population the Azerbaijani armed forces carried out counter-offensive attacks and retaliatory measures within the framework of the right of self-defense in full compliance with international humanitarian law.
The diplomat added that world countries, and international and regional organisations condemned the Armenian provocations.
The diplomat informed that when the Armenian armed forces shelled on Ganja on October 4, they damaged civilian objects, and residential buildings, including the Imamzadeh complex, which is a religious architectural monument. However, the Azerbaijani Army does not target historical, cultural, especially religious buildings and monuments. Armenian armed forces committed acts of vandalism in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, historical monuments, mosques, and cemeteries were destroyed and turned into ruins.
As a result of the Moscow meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs, which took place with the mediation of the Russian Federation, the sides agreed to observe the humanitarian ceasefire from 12.00 on October 10, 2020. However, the armed forces of Armenia continued to grossly violate this agreement.
Right after the agreement, Armenia shelled on Azerbaijan’s Aghdam and Tartar cities by using heavy artillery. A few hours later, the Armenian armed forces attempted to provocation in the Hadrut and Jabrayil directions of the front.
By grossly violating the humanitarian ceasefire, the Armenian armed forces continued to shell densely populated cities.
Following the ceasefire agreement, firing on civilians and cities by Armenian armed forces is barbarism and a crime against humanity. It shows once again that Armenia was not interested in the political settlement of the conflict, aiming to continue its violent policy against Azerbaijan.
The ambassador also added that the Azerbaijani side strongly condemned Armenian provocations and called on the international community to force Armenia to comply with the demands of international law.
It was underlined that the political and military leadership of Armenia bears full responsibility for the situation in the region.
In the end, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Anar Maharramov for conveying full, detailed, and truthful information about Armenia's military provocation against our country to the Spanish-speaking public through The ABC newspaper.
