On October 16, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Switzerland, Khanim Ibrahimova gave an interview to "RTS '' about Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and the ongoing battles. The interview was broadcasted in "prime time", when listeners usually listen to the radio the most.
During the interview, the agreement of a humanitarian ceasefire in Moscow was discussed. The diplomat informed the listeners that 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories - Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 adjacent regions - have been occupied by Armenia for nearly 30 years, emphasizing the importance of recognizing Armenia as an aggressor and occupying state in this conflict. It was noted that the Azerbaijani side attended constructively at the Moscow meeting and took responsibility for following the ceasefire regime. Highlighting Azerbaijan’s readiness to start negotiations as soon as possible, the ambassador said that Armenia took a different position. A few hours after the humanitarian ceasefire agreement, Ganja, the second-largest city in our country, was hit by a ballistic missile, which killed 10 civilians and injured many people. The diplomat also mentioned the fact that 43 Azerbaijani civilians, including children and older people, were killed, and 214 people were injured by Armenia according to the statistics for October 14.
Despite Azerbaijan’s constructive position, it was disappointing that Armenia violated the resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding the complete, immediate, and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the agreed ceasefire. Armenia must be seriously condemned by the international community. Noting that nearly thirty years of negotiations, as well as documents adopted by international organizations, have not yielded any results, the diplomat pointed out that Armenia's goal was to maintain the status quo and continue the occupation.
Speaking of Turkiye’s participation in the war, the diplomat underlined the role of the brotherly country in strengthening Azerbaijan's independence, territorial integrity, and development of its economic potential. Furthermore, political and moral support from Turkiye was also emphasized.
Answering the question about Azerbaijan’s expectation from Switzerland, the diplomat said that the country supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and did not recognize the so-called regime in the occupied territories. Besides, Switzerland also suggested a platform for peace negotiations.
