‘Naewoeilbo’ newspaper of the Republic of Azerbaijan has published the appeal of Azerbaijanis living in Korea regarding the recent Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijan.
The article states that the military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan is currently taking place on the lands of Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan only aims to clear its territory from foreign invaders. Although 20 percent of the territories of Azerbaijan are occupied by Armenia, Azerbaijan has been interested in peace negotiations: “If the army of any foreign country occupied 20 % of the territories of the Republic of Korea and committed genocide against innocent people, how would the Korean people react to it?”
It is stated that Azerbaijan has hoped for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. However, Armenia continued its war crimes against the civilian people rejecting Azerbaijan’s offer.
In addition, the appeal stated that Armenia has placed militants belonging to terrorist groups, including the PKK terrorist organization, from countries such as Syria and Lebanon in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and has used those terrorists in massacres against the people of Azerbaijan.
Besides, it was stated that the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict didn’t have any religious causes and it is inadmissible to present and analyze the conflict as an inter-religious clash between two countries. If the conflict had religious grounds, it would be impossible to establish strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, another Christian country in the Caucasus.
The article noted that Azerbaijan only aims to restore its territorial integrity, recognized by the UN and all other world countries without any hidden intention or territorial claims to Armenia.
“Azerbaijan has been making efforts for a peaceful settlement of the conflict for 27 years. However, the next war crime committed by Armenia against the Azerbaijani people since September 27 was hateful and it was decided to give an appropriate response to Armenia,” the appeal also read.
It was brought to the attention of the Korean people that Azerbaijan wants peace, which will provide restoration of its territorial integrity and return of one million refugees and IDPs to their native lands.
