Romanian online newspaper “Ultima Ora” published an article by Azerbaijan's ambassador to Romania Huseyn Najafov entitled ‘Armenia's next military provocation against Azerbaijan’.
In the article, the author wrote about the gross violation of the ceasefire regime by Armenia, its attack on the Azerbaijani positions along the contact line with large-caliber weapons and artillery, and resorting to further aggression against Azerbaijan. It was noted that as a result of the attacks, servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were killed. Besides, civilian infrastructure was seriously damaged due to the strikes.
“The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan carry out counter-attack and response measures within the framework of the right of self-defense and in full compliance with international humanitarian law to prevent the next military aggression of Armenia and to ensure the safety of the civilian population living along the contact line,” the ambassador stated in the article.
It is stated that Armenia continues to intensively shell the Azerbaijani positions and settlements on the contact line, targeting civilians.
“The next aggression of the Armenian side against Azerbaijan is a gross violation of the fundamental norms and principles of international law, the resolutions of the UN Security Council No. 822, 853, 874 and 884 dated 1993, which demand the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Armenia's act of aggression against Azerbaijan is the continuation of the provocations of the Armenian side during the last months, including the July 12-16 attack in the direction of Tovuz, diversion-intelligence provocation in the direction of Goranboy on August 23, the illegal settlement policy in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as well as provocative statements and activities of the Armenian leadership. In his address to the nation, President Ilham Aliyev said that Armenia’s political and military leadership bears the entire responsibility for the military provocation against Azerbaijan and that the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia "Karabakh is Armenia and the point" makes the negotiation process meaningless and assessed it as an attempt to change the format of the negotiations.
The ambassador highlighted that these bloody battles are a moment of truth for the entire Azerbaijani people, and it was pointed out that our position is based on international law and justice.
