Tahir Taghizade, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Great Britain and Northern Ireland has held an online press briefing on Armenian violence against Azerbaijan and the current situation around the conflict with the participation of leading British media BBC, ‘Telegraph’, ‘ The Guardian’, as well as British MPs and conflict experts.
The participants of the press briefing have been informed about Armenia’s military provocations and attacks against Azerbaijan starting from September 27, its aggression against the civilian population and civilian facilities of Azerbaijan, and the results of this provocation.
Tahir Taghizade stated that despite the 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the armed forces of Armenia from the territories of Azerbaijan, as well as numerous documents of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and other influential international institutions, official Yerevan continues the policy of occupation until today.
In his speech, Taghizade noted that Nagorno-Karabakh and its surrounding 7 regions are internationally recognized as the territory of Azerbaijan and that military operations are being conducted on the territory of Azerbaijan. He said that Azerbaijan doesn’t aim to carry out ethnic cleansing in the territories but to achieve peaceful living of people in the region.
In the briefing, he also added that Azerbaijan, which had professional and well-trained Armed Forces, didn't need any additional assistance.
It was stated that there were videos showing that Armenian mercenaries and terrorists were brought to Nagorno-Karabakh from Lebanon and Syria.
“Grossly violating their obligations under the Geneva Convention, Armenians fired heavy weapons at the areas inhabited by the peaceful Azerbaijani population. As a result, 19 people lost their lives, including 2 children, and 55 people were seriously injured,” the Ambassador also noted.
