Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to France Rahman Mustafayev gave an interview with Le Courrier de l’Atlas, a French portal.
The diplomat said the Moscow meeting shows that the negotiations should be continued based on the basic principles, that is, the principles of full, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.
He recalled that before the conflict, along with Azerbaijanis and Armenians, Russians, Jews and Kurds had lived in Karabakh. Armenia acted contrary to international law by evicting the entire population of Nagorno-Karabakh from this region.
“Today, it is clear that the conflict is between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The basic principles also include an article on the deployment of international peacekeeping forces in the region to ensure peace. However, it is impossible to say anything about it now,” Mustafayev said.
The ambassador pointed out that immediately after the Moscow-brokered humanitarian ceasefire, Armenia fired a missile at Ganja, the second-largest city of Azerbaijan, killing 10 civilians and injuring numerous others. He stressed that Armenia’s missile attack on Ganja constitutes a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions.
Ambassador Mustafayev also blamed the OSCE Minsk Grup for failing to achieve a solution to the conflict over the past 30 years.
Touching upon Azerbaijan-France relations, the diplomat said his country enjoys close relations with almost all countries, including its neighbors.
As for the support voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron for Azerbaijan, the ambassador said the president’s position is based on international law. Hailing the support provided by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, the diplomat also thanked Morocco for backing Baku’s position.
In his interview, Ambassador Mustafayev also provided information the international projects initiated by Azerbaijan.
