“I’m proud of my son” - mother of brave artilleryman Vusal (AZERTAC)
“Yesterday, I watched for the first time on TV that video disseminated by the Ministry of Defense. I couldn’t believe my own eyes. After coming home from work, I woke up his father, who was sleeping tiredly, that they were showing our son on TV. My daughters also came. I turned the TV to another channel, and we saw that they were showing the same video from there. My eyes filled up. I am proud of my son. Hopefully, all our occupied lands will be liberated. May all our soldiers return home safely and victoriously,” said Ilaha Shahkarimova, the mother of Vusal Shahkarimov, a hero artilleryman of the Azerbaijani Army.
Shahkarimov, a participant in the Second Karabakh War, rose to fame precisely after his heroic appearance is reflected in the video. He became a favorite of the Azerbaijani public and one of the symbols of victory in the Second Karabakh War.
Shahkarimov was born on 29 June 2001 in Gusarchay village, Azerbaijan’s Khachmaz district. After finishing secondary school in the village, he joined the army.
Agha Aghayev, the grandfather of Vusal, said that he got emotional when watching his grandson on TV.
“I watched that video many times. I was very happy. I said to myself, is this our Vusal? I saw that it was our hero, wrestler Vusal. I am very proud of my grandson. Under the leadership of our victorious Commander-in-Chief, our soldiers drive the enemy out of our lands. Our flag will fly in Shusha, Khankendi,” he said.
Vusal has two younger sisters. Seven-year-old Fidan says that she is proud of her brother who protects the Motherland. “May the war end soon with our victory, and may my brother return to our home,” she added.
Islam Shahkaramov, the father of the brave artilleryman, also got emotional while speaking about his son: “He went into the army in July of last year, on his birthday. And now everyone sees how he inflicts strikes on the enemy. I wish all our soldiers to return home with victory.”
