Elshan Amrahov: I’m confident that Shusha, the crown of Karabakh, will soon be cleared of invaders (AZERTAC)
“Whenever its name is mentioned, our eyes fill with tears and our hearts sink. How can a person leave his native lands? For 28 years, we have been praying that at least we will be able to live the rest of our lives in our hometown - Shusha,” said Elshan Amrahov, an IDP from the Shusha district’s Khanalilar village, who is currently residing in Masalli.
Amrahov remembered with great sadness those difficult days when his family was forced to leave the city of Shusha.
“On the night of May 7-8, 1992... We could not resist the merciless invader equipped with numerous military vehicles and manpower. We were unarmed. We stood at the post at night, voluntarily trying to help the fighters. Like my cousin Fikret Huseynov, my cousin Bakhtiyar Aliyev, how many of my relatives and fellow villagers fought bravely and became martyrs,” he said.
The 49-year-old Shusha resident continued: “Although we left Shusha, our soul remained there. The innocent people were forced to flee their native lands barefoot. Although it was May, the snow had not melted in the mountains. The cattle also stayed there. Children and women were sent away by trucks. I left the village a little late with my uncles Jannat and Mirsiyab (both passed away), together with other locals. We traveled for 13 days in the direction of Lachin-Gubadli-Jabrayil together with the people who gathered in the Mirzalar deposit. Although we first moved to the village of Khalilli in Ismayilli, after the occupation of Aghdam, we went to Sheki. Since 1993, my mother, my two sisters, and I have been living in Erkivan village, Masalli district.”
Amrahov said they have always been treated kindly by Masalli residents.
Talking about Shusha's rich flora and fauna - clean air, fertile soil, various medicinal plants, flowers, mineral water deposits, Amrahov finished his conversation with optimistic notes: “We’re confident that thanks to the determination and will of our victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the glorious Azerbaijani army will continue to achieve victories at the front, and Shusha, a charming corner of Azerbaijan and a crown of Karabakh, will soon be cleared of invaders. Karabakh is ours! Karabakh is Azerbaijan!”
