La Nacion, a leading newspaper based in Argentina, has published an article entitled “Armenia is not interested in a peaceful settlement of the conflict.”
The article by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Argentina Rashad Aslanov says: “The armed forces of Armenia, committing large-scale provocations, subjected to intensive shelling from large-caliber weapons, mortars, and artillery mounts of various calibers of the positions of the Azerbaijan Army along the entire length of the front and residential settlements located in the frontline zone. There are killed and wounded among the civilian population as a result of the intensive shelling
The foremost units of the Azerbaijan Army are taking retaliatory measures to suppress this provocation of the enemy and to ensure the safety of the civilian population living near the line of confrontation of the troops.”
It is noted that for about 27 years, Armenia has been keeping Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts under occupation and grossly violating the norms and principles of international law, including the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Armenia’s non-implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions, which affirm Nagorno-Karabakh as Azerbaijan’s integral part and demand a complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, undermines the negotiation process.
The ambassador also stresses that Azerbaijan remains committed to the peace process. He notes that the statements made by Armenia’s military and political leadership demonstrate that Yerevan keeps disrupting the negotiation process and is not interested in a peaceful solution to the conflict.
