Azerbaijani Ambassador to Bulgaria Nargiz Gurbanova gave an interview during the “The World and We” program aired on the Bulgarian National Television's (BNT). The interview was also published on the TV channel’s website.
In her interview, Ambassador Gurbanova said that on September 27, the Armenian armed forces, in a gross violation of the ceasefire regime, shelled Azerbaijan’s military positions and residential areas along the line of contact from heavy weapons, mortars and artillery pieces of various calibers and committed another act of aggression against Azerbaijan.
The diplomat stressed that Armenia’s next act of aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international law, as well as the relevant UN Security Council resolutions demanding a complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied Azerbaijani territories. She stated that Azerbaijan is the most interested party in resolving the conflict.
The ambassador informed that Armenian troops have been targeting the civilian population of Azerbaijan in recent days, and unfortunately, there are dead and injured among civilians.
Noting that the situation in the region remains tense, Gurbanova said Azerbaijan keeps taking necessary steps to suppress Armenia’s provocations, protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders, as well as to ensure the safety of the civilian population.
The Azerbaijani diplomat stressed that after the change of power in Armenia in 2018, the country's military rhetoric increased, and baseless claims were made regarding the negotiation process. She said despite the fact that the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly warned the international community that Armenia is preparing for a new war, no measures have been taken to stop Armenia.
