The London Post has published an article, entitled “Brief on the beginning of a new war in South Caucasus”, by Fuad Chiragov, head of the department at the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center).
In his article, the author said that the Armenian armed forces, illegally stationed in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, violated the ceasefire and targeted not only the positions of the Azerbaijani Army but also the civilian population and civilian infrastructure. He noted that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, by exercising its right to self-defense established by the UN, launched counteroffensive operations and liberated several villages of Fuzuli and Jabrayil districts from the occupation and took control of the strategic Murovdagh Mountain range.
The author stressed that in 2018, the previous regime was overthrown due to the socio-economic situation and corruption in Armenia, and the people pinned their hopes on Nikol Pashinyan, who came to power. “However, two years later, he did not live up to expectations and did not become a major reformer as expected. Instead, he dragged the Armenian people into the bloodiest battles since the 1990s.”
According to Chiragov, the OSCE Minsk Group, which is the only international organization tasked to mediate a conflict resolution, as well as the international community, failed to pay due attention to the deliberately disruptive actions against the negotiation process and peace. “Therefore, the OSCE Minsk Group is responsible for the continuation of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the violation of the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons, and the military aggression by Armenians against the territories of Azerbaijan and the civilian population,” he added.
