Russian expert: Azerbaijan cannot be blamed for anything (Report)
Azerbaijan cannot be blamed for anything in the current situation, because throughout all these years, Azerbaijan has been patiently doing everything possible to somehow resolve the conflict, said Yuri Mavashev, a Russian orientalist-Turkologist while commenting on the resumption of hostilities between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“The current situation is not just another. This is really a full-scale war and not a limited provocation. Judging by the intensity of passions on both sides, everyone is determined to continue to achieve the final result, which, on the one hand, is dangerous and really frightening, but, on the other hand, what other options could there be? Because all the peace initiatives, unfortunately, were not successful,” Mavashev said.
The Russian expert also shared views on Russia’s possible steps in this situation.
“In my understanding, Russia has recently lost its authority in the post-Soviet space. After many events, including the situation in Belarus, how can Russia be a mediator in this conflict? To be honest, I don’t see Russia’s role here at all. The reason has not been resolved for almost 30 years. New mechanisms are needed, but with the participation of Moscow and Ankara, it would be more stable,” he added.
