85-Year-Old Grandma Dreams of Seeing Her Handmade Flag Undulate in Shusha
Lachin Baghirova, an 85-year-old resident of Aghdam village in Tovuz on the border with Armenia, has always been known as a hard-working woman. Grandma Lachin has earned bread for her money with tailoring. She is also the mother of a Karabakh War veteran.
Grandma Lachin lives with a dream of hearing the news of victory and liberation of Karabakh from the enemy. Although her eyes have weakened greatly with age, she still insists on threading the needle and continuing her craft.
Over 30 years ago when our tricolour flag was hard to come by as there was no mass production, the flag made by Grandma Lachin undulated at the highest peak of the border village, inspiring fear in the enemy.
She has only one wish left. She dreams of seeing her handmade flags undulate in Shusha and Khankendi. ‘I rejoice as I look at our soldiers. I pray each time I see them on TV. My family says they can’t hear me through the screen. But I don’t mind. I pray from the bottom of my heart for our boys to win and return home safely’, the 85-year-old comments.
It has been a while since Lachin Baghirova has touched her sewing machine. She has fewer orders now that there is a mass production of flags. Inspired by the recent victories of the Azerbaijani Army, she has taken out her old machine again and set to work. Her dearest wish is to see our tricolour flag made by her own two hands, fly proudly in Shusha, free from the enemy!
God willing, those days are not far, Grandma Lachin. Our tricolour flag thousands have sacrificed for and that you have made with your own hands at this age, God willing, will soon fly in our Lachin, Shusha, and Khankendi!
