Our Compatriots in Uzbekistan Call on World Community to Support Azerbaijan’s Fair Stance
The Azerbaijani diaspora in Uzbekistan has appealed to the UN Secretary-General, and prominent international organizations such as the UN Security Council, the OSCE, the European Parliament, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the CIS, and UNESCO.
The State Committee for Work with Diaspora reports that the appeal, signed by Firdovsi Huseynov, the chairman of the National Cultural Centre of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan, reads that our countrymen fiercely oppose Armenian armed forces grossly violating the ceasefire on 27 September and launching more military provocations that have lead to severe casualties among Azerbaijan’s civilian population: ‘This provocation illustrates that Armenia is carrying out an occupation policy right on Azerbaijani lands.’
It reminds us that Armenia has still not been complying with 4 UN resolutions and intended to claim more Azerbaijani territories through the Tovuz provocation. The appeal states that the Azerbaijani Army has launched a counterattack in retaliation to the latest subversions by Armenians and liberated some of our occupied territories.
‘President Ilham Aliyev has stated that a successful counter-offensive operation will end the injustice of almost thirty years! The people of Azerbaijan want to live in their own lands. They have been living with a longing for their homeland. People, who have been forcibly expelled from their ancestral homes by Armenian leadership, want to return to their ancestral homes, although they have been long since destroyed. The cities of Aghdam and Fuzuli, mosques, and cemeteries in the occupied territories have been left in ruins. This has been committed with utmost brutality. Azerbaijan is fighting not only for its territorial integrity but also for justice.’
Azerbaijanis in Uzbekistan and worldwide fully support Azerbaijan’s efforts to reinstate its territorial integrity, return over a million refugees and IDPs to their homes, and ensure a peaceful life for their citizens, as well as the restoration of the rights and freedoms of their compatriots, violated because of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. ‘We ask of the international community to understand the current decisions by the Azerbaijani leadership, interfere in the occupant decisions by the Armenian leadership and tell them how crucial it is to resolve the problem peacefully. The occupied territories of Azerbaijan must unconditionally be liberated! We hope for the soonest liberation of our territories, return of the refugees and IDPs to their homelands, and restoration of peace and stability, the appeal reads.
