18th meeting of Prosecutor Generals of member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization held via videoconferencing
On October 20, the 18th meeting of the Prosecutor Generals of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held through videoconferencing. The meeting was dedicated to the fight against corruption.
At the event held with the participation of the Prosecutor Generals and high-level representatives of international organizations of 15 states, the delegation led by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev represented Azerbaijan.
Addressing the event, the Prosecutor General gave detailed information that starting from September 27, the Armenian armed forces grossly violated the norms and principles of international law and the requirements of the Geneva Conventions, targeting the densely populated settlements in the conflict zone, as well as the areas far away from the place of military operations. “Moreover, on October 4, 11 and 17, the enemy made missile attacks on the densely populated central part of the ancient and historical Ganja, the 2nd largest city of Azerbaijan, the strategic city of Mingachevir, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipelines, and the Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station. Armenians used internationally prohibited "Smerch" cluster bombs and "Scud" missile systems, also involved foreign mercenaries in the ranks of enemy forces,” Aliyev informed.
The Prosecutor General stressed that the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan initiated 37 criminal cases on the crimes committed by the armed forces of Armenia against Azerbaijani civilians, and despite the danger to life in the area, prosecutors and investigators are carrying out operational and investigative measures.
The crimes committed by Armenia against the civilian population since September 27, killed 61 civilians, including seven children and 19 women, injured more than 300 civilians, and inflicted serious damages on more than 2,500 residential houses and civilian facilities.
At the same time, the Prosecutor General noted that the Azerbaijani Army has launched a counter-offensive operation on the lands of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia, and liberated various villages, towns, districts and cities.
Prosecutor Generals of Russia Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Uzbekistan strongly condemned the attacks against the civilian population and stressed the importance of peaceful resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of international legal norms.
At the end of the event, the Prosecutor Generals of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization signed documents on cooperation and decided to hold the next meeting in the Republic of India in 2021.
