Armenia targets residential settlements of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam (Azertac)
The Armenian armed forces continue to fire heavy artillery at densely-populated settlements, and civilian facilities, as well as private houses and multi-apartment buildings, in Azerbaijan. As a result of the shelling by Armenian troops of the non-occupied villages and settlements of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district, houses, auxiliary buildings, schools, shops and other facilities, as well as electricity and gas facilities were damaged.
The house owned by Mahammad Valiyev, an IDP from Gulluja village, burned down along with his belongings as a result of a projectile explosion.
Mahammad Valiyev recalled the horror of the Armenian shelling: “We were in the yard. The seventh shell fired hit our house, causing a fire. We could not get anything out. All the things burned down. But we don’t regret it, everything will be good. This house was built at the expense of our state. The destroyed houses will be rebuilt. May our soldiers live long, may our lands be liberated from occupation!”
Another resident Aytakin Novruzova said: “We were sitting in the yard. Suddenly, one of the shells fell behind the house - in the yard. Shrapnel damaged our house and fruit trees. We stand by our soldiers. We are not going anywhere. We are busy with our daily work. We believe that all our lands will be liberated, and all displaced people will return to their homes.”
Since the morning of September 27, the Armenian armed forces, using heavy weapons, mortars and large-caliber weapons, have been intensively shelling the Azerbaijani Army’s positions along the front line and residential settlements. Civilians were targeted and their houses, property and infrastructure were severely damaged. In order to suppress the combat activity of the Armenian armed forces and ensure the safety of the civilian population, the command of the Azerbaijani Army decided to launch a counter-attack operation along the entire front.
The Armenian armed forces keep deliberately targeting the civilian population of Azerbaijan by using prohibited projectiles, including phosphorous bombs.
