Sugovushan - 28 years of longing ends (AZERTAC)
The liberation of Sugovushan village from the Armenian occupation will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan. Thus, the 28-year-long occupation of the water reservoir in Sugovushan created difficulties in irrigating the agricultural fields of Aghdam, Agjabadi, Tartar, Barda, Yevlakh, and Goranboy districts. Water has already been supplied to the Tartarchay River from the reservoir freed from the occupation by the Azerbaijani Army. This means that there will be no problem in irrigating the fields.
Mehman Karimov, Chief Engineer of Tartar District Branch of Azerbaijan Amelioration and Water Management OJSC, said the total volume of the Sugovushan reservoir, located on the Tartarchay River in the territory of Sugovushan village of Tartar district, is 5.86 million cubic meters. The water entering from the Tartarchay and Turagaychay rivers was regulated in the reservoir and fed to the main canal with a total subflow capacity of 70 cubic meters per second, and after 5.2 kilometers of the canal, to the Right Bank and Left Bank main canals, each with a subflow capacity of 50 and 20 cubic meters per second. Since the Sugovushan reservoir was under occupation for 28 years, there were serious difficulties in providing water to a total of 96,217 hectares of land in Tartar, Goranboy, Yevlakh, Barda, Aghdam and Aghjabadi districts. After the liberation of Sugovushan by the Azerbaijani Army, water was released from the Sugovushan reservoir. Currently, as a result of the regulation of water released from the reservoir, there is plenty of water in the Tartarchay River, as well as in canals and ditches.
Since the morning of September 27, the Armenian armed forces, using heavy weapons, mortars and large-caliber weapons, have been intensively shelling the Azerbaijani Army’s positions along the front line and residential settlements. Civilians were targeted and their houses, property and infrastructure were severely damaged. To suppress the combat activity of the Armenian armed forces and ensure the safety of the civilian population, the command of the Azerbaijani Army decided to launch a counter-attack operation along the entire front.
The Armenian armed forces keep deliberately targeting the civilian population of Azerbaijan by using prohibited projectiles, including phosphorous bombs.
The glorious Azerbaijani Army liberated the village of Sugovushan from the Armenian occupation on October 3.
