General Prosecutor's Office launches criminal case two mercenaries who helped Armenian invaders in Karabakh
The General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues to take necessary measures to expose the occupying nature of Armenia at the international level, as well as to hold the servicemen of subversive Armenian units who committed crimes against the Azerbaijani army and civilians accountable within the framework of international law.
As part of these measures, the General Prosecutor's Office conducted an investigation on the basis of numerous reports published in local and foreign mass media about the criminal acts committed by Artur Oganisyan, a citizen of France, and Vaaghn Chakhalyan, a citizen of Georgia, in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The investigation revealed reasonable suspicions that foreign nationals Artur Oganisyan and Vaaghn Chakhalyan entered into criminal relations with persons in Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and united as part of a criminal organization. Contrary to the requirements of the Law "On the State Border of the Republic of Azerbaijan" and the Migration Code, they illegally crossed the internationally recognized state border of Azerbaijan without documents and entered the city of Khankendi and other occupied settlements. There are also substantial suspicions that they have been used as mercenaries in order to support the illegal regime operating under the name of the “Nagorno Karabakh Republic”, and to fight against peaceful citizens of Azerbaijan and those carrying out anti-terrorist operations, as well as the Azerbaijani armed forces.
Moreover, the investigations revealed grounds for suspicion that those persons have been involved in terrorist acts against the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan by using illegally acquired firearms and ammunition.
The General Prosecutor's Office has launched a criminal case under relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Intensive investigative and operational measures are underway.
