Azerbaijan accused Armenia on Wednesday of trying to attack its gas and oil pipelines and warned of a "severe" response, as tensions mounted over a fraying ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabkah, the Australian news portal SBS News said in an article on October 14.
“If Armenia implements these dirty intentions, i.e. plans to put the pipelines out of operation, then the response to their actions will be very tough. We have already warned them about this,” the news portal cited President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as saying in his interview with Haber Turk TV channel.
The portal also referred to the statement of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry that Armenia’s military facilities targeting civilian facilities will be destroyed.
Moreover, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry accused Armenian forces of new attacks on Azerbaijani army positions along the line of contact that divides the two sides, and that the Terter, Aghdam and Aghjabedi regions inside Azerbaijan were under artillery fire. As a result of the shelling, one Azerbaijani civilian was killed and several people, including journalists, were injured.
The portal also informed Australian leaders about the history of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
