Islamic Games winner: Wrestling school can be opened in Gubadli (Report)
“When we heard the news, all our family members were very happy. My father is a first Karabakh war veteran. We were waiting for the speech of President Ilham Aliyev to announce the liberation of Gubadli from occupation,” said Greco-Roman wrestler Islam Abbasov as he shared his feelings about the liberation of Gubadli.
“We really want to go there. Our joy has no limits. I first saw the news on social networks. I was following the Twitter account of Mr. President. I first informed my family, and everyone was happy. We are grateful to our army and our Commander-in-Chief,” he said.
The 24-year-old athlete, who won a bronze medal at the European Championship in Rome this year, said that when he goes to Gubadli, he will visit the cemetery first: “We should restore our historical monuments there. Then we can think about opening a wrestling school in Gubadli. First of all, reconstruction work should be done in historical places.”
He also expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani Army.
Islam Abbasov is a gold medalist of the IV Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku in 2017. In 2018, he became a U23 European champion.
