French Lawmaker Cites UN Resolutions Supporting Azerbaijan’s Territorial Integrity
In an interview with the French newspaper Bourse Plus, Jean-Luc Reitzer, a member of the French National Assembly and the Foreign Affairs Committee, referred to UN Security Council resolutions that support Azerbaijan’s position in the Karabakh conflict. According to the deputy, these resolutions affirm that Azerbaijan must restore its territorial integrity, noting that Azerbaijan’s claims are based on solid legal grounds.
Reitzer pointed out that some international media outlets inaccurately suggest that Armenians have historically formed the primary population of Nagorno-Karabakh. He emphasized that the current demographic imbalance is the result of mass expulsions of Azerbaijanis from their native lands.
“Many people discuss this issue without fully understanding it,” he said. “Despite the measures taken by the President of Azerbaijan to improve the living conditions of refugees, thousands of displaced Azerbaijanis continue to live in difficult circumstances in temporary shelters. I have personally visited these camps — we must not forget their suffering.”
The French lawmaker underlined that France must play a genuine and constructive role in resolving the conflict. “As a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, France bears a share of responsibility. The fact that Turkey is now involved in the peace process shows that the Minsk Group has failed to fulfill its duties. It should have exerted pressure to find a fair, sustainable solution and to reduce tensions. We are all responsible for the current situation,” Reitzer concluded.
