Azerbaijani Ambassador to Switzerland Details Armenia’s Aggression in Weltwoche Interview

Khanym Ibrahimova, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Switzerland, has given an extensive interview to Weltwoche, the most-read newspaper in the Swiss Federal Parliament. This marks the first time the publication has featured a report focused on Azerbaijan.

In the interview, Ambassador Ibrahimova provided a comprehensive overview of Armenia’s provocations since Nikol Pashinyan assumed power in 2018, including border and contact-line attacks earlier this year. She stressed that the large-scale offensive launched by Armenia on September 27 disrupted negotiations and identified Pashinyan as the instigator of the ongoing conflict.

Ibrahimova highlighted UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions demanding the unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories. She emphasized that the so-called “Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh,” established by Armenia, remains unrecognized internationally, including by Switzerland, and underscored that a peaceful resolution requires full respect for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

The ambassador condemned attacks on civilians, citing missile strikes on Ganja, and held the Armenian government accountable. She criticized biased international media coverage and refuted claims that Armenia’s small size or limited resources justify its aggression, noting the Armenian diaspora’s attempts to portray the country as a victim globally.

The interview also addressed economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, noting that over 67 Swiss companies operate in Azerbaijan and that the country is diversifying its economy beyond oil and gas into renewable energy, agriculture, and tourism. Ibrahimova highlighted Azerbaijan’s historic status as the first secular and democratic republic in the East, established in 1918, and the first country to grant women the right to vote.

Finally, she recalled the coexistence of Azerbaijanis and Armenians during the Soviet era and detailed how Armenia’s territorial claims from 1988 onward led to the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts.

Azərbaycan Ordusunun sentyabrın 27-də işğalçı Ermənistan silahlı qüvvələrinə qarşı başladığı əks-hücum əməliyyatında əldə etdiyi möhtəşəm qələbələr haqqında bundan sonra kitablar yazılacaq, filmlər çəkiləcək. Amma indidən tam əminliklə deyə bilərik ki, cəbhə uğurlarımızın ən başlıca səbəbi Prezident, Ali Baş Komandan İlham Əliyevin həyata keçirdiyi güclü dövlət, güclü ordu strategiyası, milli birlik və döyüşçülərimizin ruh yüksəkliyi idi.
