Journalist Mauro Indelicato’s article titled "Why is the Trentino-South Tyrol model being discussed in relation to Nagorno-Karabakh?" was published on the "Insideover" portal of the prestigious Italian newspaper "Il Giornale".
In his article, the author gives ample space to the views of the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Italy, Mammad Ahmadzadeh, and the then Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Mario Raffaelli, who was the first chairman of the Minsk conference.
Talking about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its causes, Indelicato highlighted that the Nagorno-Karabakh region, where the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities lived together, is historically the territory of Azerbaijan. He also emphasizes that the region was given the status of an autonomous region within the Azerbaijan Republic in 1923 during the Soviet period, and the war started after the collapse of the USSR and the conflict has not yet been resolved.
He also added that the issue is complicated at the political level, on the one hand, a "de facto independent republic" has been created that is not recognized by any state, including Armenia, and on the other hand, the Azerbaijani government never give up on their fight to re-liberate Nagorno-Karabakh and the other seven surrounding regions under the occupation of Armenia.
